Stop! Just stop!

So I took my kids to see one of the Space Shuttles at a Science Museum.  It was truly awe inspiring.   After seeing the shuttle we saw the 3D Imax movie about the International Space Station, the life of astronauts living there and how beautiful earth is from space.  In 3D on that giant screen it truly was breathtaking.

As we were walking out of the theater two small children were telling their father that they thought the film was "really cool!".  Dad’s response: “Ah, it was just liberal propaganda."

I wanted to turn to the guy and say, "Can't you just let your kids enjoy it without bringing politics into it?" But I didn't because the dude looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the early years, with an anger issue.  I didn't want to die that day.

At first I couldn't figure out what Big Daddy could possibly think was liberal about the movie.  Then I remembered that about 4 minutes of the 45 minute movie were spent showing us from space how much the polar ice sheets have melted and how much the world's rain forests have disappeared.  That's it.  No lecture about global warming.  No decree to vote Democrat or Green party.   They just showed the images and left you to form your own opinion.

Four minutes out of forty five.

This is what I’m talking about.  When I was his kid’s age, Americans were proud and awed by the space program.  ALL Americans - right and left.  We were blown away by the heroism, the good old fashioned American ingenuity, the sheer determination that it took to reach the stars.

But the brave astronaut took a picture of melting ice sheets.  Damn liberal conspiracy.

Stop.   Just stop!
